Daily Raffle Tickets Available!

 

'09 Varsity Statistics, Updated 5/19!

 
Daily raffle tickets will be available for players to pickup starting on Wednesday, March 10th. 

Tickets can be picked up from Diane Gratz between Wednesday and Friday this week. Coach Dod will be helping Diane hand out tickets throughout the day on Wednesday.

Sports Authority Special!

Starting Sunday, February 28th, thru Saturday, March 27th, Sports Authority is embarking on a new Grassroots initiative geared toward local groups in the community. Click here to find a flyer for the event, entitled Double Play Days. 

On the flyer we have two great deals. First, we have a $10 off of a $50 purchase. Second, we are offering a $25 cash card for all purchases over $100, no exclusions when redeeming the cash card. 

2010 Coaches Clinic Held!

The annual NHHSBCA Coaches Clinic was held on Sunday, February 14th, 2010 at Souhegan High School in Amherst. Approximately 100 high school coaches from around NH attended the clinic.

Coach Mike Tully! Coach Mike Tully has studied peak performance for three decades, first as an international sports
   
writer and then as a championship coach. Coach Tully covered Olympic Games in Lake Placid, Los Angeles, Sarajevo and Seoul, as well as more than 100 consecutive World Series games.

 2010 Fundraising!
 

The 2010 baseball season is fast approaching and fundraiser planning is already under way to help raise money for the annual trip to NY City and a new batting cage for the baseball program. 

Fundraising will occur though a car wash, umbrella sales, the annual daily raffle and individual donations in the new "Hitters Club". Dates, times and contact information for these fundraising events will be available on the website as they are determined. 

Join the "Hitters Club"!

Coach Dods new fundraising program, the "Hitters Club", will allow anyone to donate to the Souhegan Baseball program. While any donation is possible, the "Hitters Club" contains four different donation levels: Hit a Homer for $20, Hit a Triple for $15, Hit a Double for $10, and Hit a Single for $5. Your name and donation level will also be listed on the "Hitters Club" page. Click here to "Hitters Club" page.

SHS Players available for Yard Work!

The Souhegan Baseball team is conducting a fund raising event to make the needed funds for their Annual Spring trip to New York in April.

To assist in raising the money for the trip, players from the team are available to do Fall yard work. If you are interested in hiring a group of players please contact Head Baseball Coach Bill Dod at saberchamps@comcast.net. Information on the type of work the players will be asked to do should be included in the inquiry. 

Umbrellas are On Sale Now!

We are NOW selling umbrellas. The kick off for the sale was successful as a number of umbrellas were sold at the boys' soccer match (THANK YOU Mr and Mrs Aunio) and at the football game (THANK YOU Peter Bennett, Austin Cote, James DiLiegro, Patrick McDeed and Mrs Peg Bennett).

The umbrellas will sell for $20. For each umbrella you sell, your individual account will be credited with $10. This will be placed toward YOUR cap, jacket and Spring Trip.

Congratulations to the Souhegan Baseball Players, you have been you have been honored as the Number One Sportsmanship Team in Class I, Oyster River was second, Milford and Lebanon were tied for third.

End of Season Banquet Held!

The Souhegan Sabers baseball program held their end of season banquet on Sunday, June 7th. Following an outdoor barbeque, there was an awards presentation for each team and an end of the season video.

Both baseball and academic achievement awards were presented to players on each team. The following awards were presented at the banquet:

Varsity season ends in Lebanon!

The Souhegan Sabers baseball team traveled to number 3 ranked Lebanon in the opening round of the Class I tournament. The Sabers dropped a 8 to 1 game.

Trailing 3 to 0 in the top of the fifth inning, Souhegan loaded the bases ... Mike Bolton drag bunt single, Tyler Manoogian reaching base on an infield error which put runners on second and third, Chris Almeida walked and Kevin Goldsmith battled Lebanon lefty Rob Woodward. A TIE GAME was written all over a Kevin Goldsmith line drive ... which landed 'four inches' foul and the rally soon ended.

In the sixth inning Nick Hession and Paul Becotte both walked and designated hitter Matt Caputo's rbi single played Nick Hession. more details...

Varsity Player of the Week, DJ Petropulos!

The tenth Souhegan Baseball Varsity Player of the Week for the 2009 season is presented to DJ Petropulos.

D J (Junior) has solidified the Souhegan defense with his outstanding play behind the plate. In addition to his leadership of the pitching staff, D J threw out two runners attempting to steal a base in both the Portsmouth and Con-Val games. Batting in the fourth slot of the batting order, D J's stroke has added a potent bat for the Sabers offensive attack.  

Varsity Player of the Week, John Barnes!

The ninth Souhegan Baseball Varsity Player of the Week for the 2009 season is presented to John Barnes.

John (Senior) has been an individual who has given his all in each and every practice and is always prepared to assist the team in any possible manner. In the Hollis / Brookline game, John was the designated hitter and added depth to the batting order helping to ignite the offense in an important contest for the Sabers tournament run. John work ethic in practice is highlighted the importance he takes in each swing during batting practice and as a first baseman he focuses on each ground ball or throw ball at first base. 

Saber JV's End Season with 7-7 Record!

On Tuesday, May 26th, the JV's hosted Portsmouth in what turned out to be their final game of the season. The JV's lost a close game by the score of 7-6, ending their season with a 7-7 record.

Freshman End Season on High Note!

On Tuesday, May 26th, the saber freshmen baseball team defeated Keene HS by a score of 5-1. Starting pitcher Robby McCormick carried a no hitter into the 7th inning before surrendering an infield hit.

Overall McCormick pitch a 1 hitter while striking out 9 Blackbirds. Bobby Graham had the game winning hit with an RBI double in the 4th inning. Jacob Dworkin played a strong game behind the plate, and also chipped in with a big single. Danny Conroy got on base in both plate appearances. Click to photos.

Freshman Player of the Week, 
Jacob Dworkin!

Jacob has been outstanding behind the plate in his last few games. He has thrown out 5 base runners and played very well on balls in the dirt. He has also batted .350, providing many clutch base hits. He was a big reason the freshmen team ended the season with a 9-2 overall record.

Tyler Hansis!


Tyler had 2 long triples this past week in addition to pitching 4 strong innings in our victory over Oyster River. Tyler continues to bat around .350 and do a solid job at 3B. Tyler always play the game with a smile and great attitude.

NH 450 Wins Club!

On Friday, April 17, 2009, Thomas Underwood (Plymouth High School) and Bill Dod (Souhegan High School) entered the 450 win club. 

450 Wins, Coach Underwood and Coach Dod

The Plymouth Bobcats defeated Laconia 13 to 2 and the Souhegan Sabers defeated Con-Val Regional 11 to 7.

Leadership Conference Held!

The NHIAA Student Athlete Leadership Conference was held in Thursday March 19th and Friday March 20th in Concord, NH. Several Souhegan High School athletes attended. Including football player Steven Jellison and baseball players Alex Lyon, DJ Petropulos, and Kevin Goldsmith. Kevin and SHS alumni Jimmy Odierna presented at the conference.

Career highlights: Valuable senior who will make the transition from second base to shortstop and help out on the mound, primarily working out of the bullpen this season.... Career highlights: As a junior, an ABCA Rawlings Gold Glove recipient, who also earned All-New England and All-LEC honors... had a team high 15 doubles... collected five hits and four RBIs vs. Albertus Magnus (3/20/08)... knocked in four runners against R.I. College (5/4/08... defeated Southern Maine (510/08) in championship round of LEC tournament.... As a sophomore, named to NCAA regional tournament, All-New England, and All-LEC teams.... led KSC in hitting (.364) and hits (52)... had 15 multi-hit games, including four against Eastern Conn. (5/5/07)... picked-up win against Curry (5/16/07) in NCAA tournament... High school: a four-year starter at Souhegan (N.H.) High where he earned All-State honors his last two years... Jamie is a member of the LEC All-Academic team majoring in English.

HIGH SCHOOL: Ryan was a three year varsity letter winner at Souhegan... was a honorable mention All-State selection his freshman year... earned All-State honors as a sophomore and junior.

 

Alumni Jamie Chevalier Awarded Golden Glove!

KEENE,N.H. 4/14/09 - Keene State's Jamie Chevalier was presented with his Gold Glove, emblematic for being the top fielding second baseman in Division III prior to the Owls game against Plymouth State last week.

Chevalier was one of nine Division III players named to the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove team last season. The junior second baseman from Amherst, N.H. posted a fine .980 fielding percentage making just five errors in 256 opportunities while helping the Owls turn a program high 49 double plays this past season. more details...
